Two neighbouring world-class, inspirational and fascinating animal sanctuaries on South Africa’s beautiful Garden Route. Monkeyland is a world first – a free-roaming multi-specie primate sanctuary. 16 species from around the world – including lemurs, marmosets, howlers and owl monkeys – dwell in this pristine forest. A canopy walk here is both educational, and a thrilling chance to see these primates free and in the wild.
Next door is the Birds of Eden. Here, a dome – the world’s largest – spans an entire forest valley, where nearly 200 species of birds – many of which were formerly caged pets – are free and safe. Macaws, parrots, parakeets, hornbills, toucans, cranes, flamingos, swans, doves – the variety is amazing, and the interaction between different species a wonderful sight.
