The potions of 'Witches’ Market'

Traditional witchcraft is serious stuff in Bolivia, and nowhere is this more evident that in La Paz’s Witches’ Market. Tucked away on the steep cobbled streets behind Plaza San Francisco, it’s a beautiful little corner of the city, with weavings and handicrafts spilling out from shops onto the narrow streets, many a fortune being told and all sorts of extravagant produce on sale. From herbal cures to magic charms, to protective talismans for your house, the Mercado de Hechiceria is a fascinating, unique place to wander through. Throw a clutch of great cafes into the mix and the nearby Coca Museum, and you’ve got an insightful, whistlestop dose of Bolivian culture.
