A land bountifully endowed with variation and life, the Nechisar National Park packs in an impressive concentration of wildlife into the lakes and mountains, dense bush and savannah that make up its terrain. Antelopes abound here – expect sightings of greater kudus and little dik-diks, grant’s gazelles and perhaps the endangered Swayne’s Hartebeest. Trails come blanketed with a rainbow of butterflies, sycamore forests are alive with birdsong, pig snorts and monkey chatter, while lakeside storks and flamingos feed warily as scores of crocodiles laze nearby. Whether journeying across the black-soiled and white-grassed plains, or afloat on Lake Chamo, Nechisar effortlessly eases its way into visitors’ favourite Ethiopia moments.
