Typical Falkland terrain is treeless, green undulation from heavy-swell sea to brisk rocky hilltop, with gorse hedges, bogs, lakes and outcrops in between. Anywhere outside Stanley is called ‘camp’ on the Falklands, perhaps due to the dearth of permanent comfort throughout the landscape. But as with the coastline, camp is a sublime landscape. Its open, elemental vibe is but a taste of the much wilder, massively wildlife-rich, subantarctic and Antarctic expanse of ice, rock, sea and sky just over the horizon.
