Roman site of Volubilis

On the World Heritage List since 1997, UNESCO describe the ruins of Volubilis as “an exceptionally well-preserved example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire”. We simply describe it as unmissable. Perched atop a plateau, the magnificent Basilica and towering columns visible for miles around, it is nonetheless some of Volubilis’s smaller moments that stay with you: the mosaic flooring depicting Hercules’s labours, a shaded seat in the pleasant gardens to take in the scene. Volubilis is a must for any Moroccan travel itinerary.
