Sabah's capital Kota Kinabalu

Your tour stop in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah, might take in some feverish souvenir trading at the local Filipino markets and a delicious bowl of hawker cuisine, but it’s the subsequent full-belly wander at sunset that will really see you smiling. The city was devastated by allied bombing in World War II, but was rejuvenated decades later into today’s modern shop strewn sprawl. Spectacular sunsets are best enjoyed through the jangling masts at Sutera Harbour or from the top of Signal Hill, where you’ll be rewarded with languid tropical cloud stacks and a shimmering sea shot through with brilliant orange - the perfect preparation for the following day’s tour to Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park.
