Historical Santa Marta

Fringed by cerulean seas and extravagant rainforest, graced with some of Colombia’s finest colonial architecture and occupying an important place in the country’s history – Santa Marta is a place that offers both rewarding cultural exploration and an instant fix of exotic adventure. Tear yourself away from the relaxing beach scene at horseshoe bays such as Taganga, and take a tour around where Simon Bolivar spent his final days, Quinta de San pedro Alejandrino. ‘El Libertador’ is a national icon and the hacienda is a fitting tribute: what was once a working estate for among other produce honey and rum, is now home to monuments to Bolivar, an art gallery and fascinating museum, and peaceful shaded gardens around a collection of fine old buildings.
