Santorini's wines

At a terrace with million-dollar Mediterranean views, on a winery tour, or in a lively local tavern – it doesn’t matter, as long as you have a glass of the local white wine in your hand. Some of Greece’s finest are made here, the volcanic soil the perfect foundation, the nocturnal sea mist nourishing the vines that grow on the caldera’s eastern edge, helping to produce bone-dry and sweet dessert whites. To aid protection from the wind, the vines have been trained to grow in a stefani, a low round basket, the middle of which provides a haven for grapes. So sit back and raise a glass to one of the world’s great, unique wine regions.
