Palm-filled oasis of Wadi Bani

Set high in the parched Hajar Mountains that rise steeply from the Gulf of Oman, Wadi Bani Khaled is one of the country’s most surprising moments. Here, among rugged hills, the wadi’s jade-green waters and overhanging palms provide an enticing shock of colour, a beautifully lush outcrop cutting its way through harsh tawny uplands. It’s a beguiling sight; but better than just taking in the view, follow the spring-water channel up the peaceful valley, past deep smooth grooves carved in stone by water and wind, to find the setting for an idyllic swim. Pick your perfect pool, choose your rocky outcrop and dive in.
