Yagua native community in the Peruvian Amazon

There’s no substitute for local knowledge and expertise when you’re exploring so alien an environment as the Amazon Jungle. Spending time with the Yagua community, several hours by boat from the ‘island’ town of Iquitos, is a fascinating experience, the last word in jungle exotica. The Yagua are one of the oldest tribes in the region, and their traditional culture – from the palm skirts they wear to their unique language to curare-tipped blowgun hunting – makes for endlessly intriguing insights. Add to this their encyclopaedic knowledge of jungle flora, and time spent with the Yagua people will have you looking at this richly extravagant part of the world in a whole new way.
