  • Why we love Bhutan

    • Bhutan remains one of the world’s least accessible countries. Television was only introduced in 1999. Yet the home of Gross National Happiness welcomes its guests with a warm heart and deep spirit.
    • A simple walk through the mountain-ringed capital of Thimpu, or the ‘Tiger’s Nest’ temple nearly a kilometre up a cliff-face, will stay with you forever

    Safety information

There is relatively little crime in Bhutan. Petty crime, such as pick-pocketing and purse snatching, is occasionally reported, although violent crime is uncommon.

It is illegal to sell or buy tobacco products in Bhutan. Up to 200 cigarettes may be imported on payment of tax and import duty of 200%. You must be able to produce your customs receipt if asked by the police or you will be charged with smuggling and face a prison sentence of 3 years. Smoking is forbidden inside public spaces such as hotels, restaurants and bars.
