Himalayan Highlights (Family) 12 days

Himalayan Highlights

This exciting adventure combines a leisurely-paced trek with the fun of a jungle safari in one of Asia’s premier wildlife reserves. We trek in the beautiful Annapurnas and enjoy great mountain scenery with plenty of time to meet the locals. Our trek begins a short drive away from Pokhara at Naya Phul. The walking is at a relaxed pace and we reach our lodge every day in time for lunch, leaving the afternoon free to relax or experience the local village life. After the trek we explore the lakeside around Pokhara and then travel to Chitwan National Park to enjoy elephant back safaris, canoe trips and village walks. There is a variety of wildlife that inhabits the park including over 300 species of birds, deer, crocodile, rhino, leopard and just possibly tiger! We even have a chance to bathe with elephants. This journey showcases the stunning beauty and great diversity of Nepal.

The most memorable part of the trip was the fact that we were off the beaten track for most of our trek. It was so great waking up to a different mountain views each day, and then walking along paths without passing other trekkers. I'm so pleased I did the Annapurna Dhaulagiri trek rather than one of the main trails. It was also fantastic to walk through the little villages, observing daily farming life and having brief encounters with the locals.

Just go. The mountains are more impressive than you can imagine. The views are spectacular and so varied every day of the trek. The locals are friendly and welcoming and the lodges, whilst basic are really comfortable considering your location. Make sure you do some training - there's a lot of walking up and down, but it's not beyond most people.

Don't overpack, you tend to wear clothes for multiple days  Cleaning ie showers available almost every day in some form.
