1. The Owners of the competition are Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W. L Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd. The competition is open to past and future clients of Peregrine Adventures, those that have taken a photo while visiting a Peregrine Adventures tour destination, Nikon Camera owners, Australian Geographic subscribers and GORE-TEX® product owners. Professional photographers and employees of the owner companies are not allowed to enter.
2. Entries
All submitted images must be in a digital format (entered online at www.peregrineadventures.com/imagesoftheworld/submitphotos.asp) or submitted on CD or DVD to Images of the World, Level 4, 380 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia. Up to three digital images may be entered in each category per month. However, the same image cannot be entered in more than one category. Slides and prints are not permitted. Images must not be adjusted beyond rule 3 and 4 prior to submission. Please submit originals where possible. Any duplicates should be of the same format as the originals. No allowances will be made for poor-quality duplicates.
3. Digital guidelines - Format
Supply all images online or on one CD or DVD compatible with a Windows-based PC. Do not use subfolders when saving images onto the CD/DVD. Images should be submitted at their native resolution with no interpolation applied. Save images as JPEGs at the highest possible quality setting (e.g. 12 in Photoshop). The online submission file limit is 5Mb. The original capture, as it was recorded by the camera, with no manipulation applied (e.g. *.DNG, *.JPG, *.NEF, *.CR2, *.CRW) may be requested. Peregrine Adventures will contact you to request this.
4. Camera requirements
Four million pixels or above. Calibration: Images should ideally be colour profiled/corrected using a correctly calibrated monitor and utilising Adobe RGB 98 colour space. Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work. The faithful representation of a natural form, behaviour or phenomenon must be maintained. Compositing and multiple exposures are not allowed. Sharpening is allowed. Manipulation Sandwich shots, double exposures, photographs which consist in any way of more than one separate image and images that have been digitally manipulated outside of rule 4 are not eligible. Cropping is allowed.
5. Labelling
The file name should carry a simple description of the image including the category name in which you are entering the image (e.g. Rhino-wildlife.jpg). Please label all images using the same format.
6. Mailing
Entries should be in one package with your name on the back, with one copy of the entry form (printed from the website: www.peregrineadventures.com/imagesoftheworld/submitphotos.asp) and sent to Images of the World, Level 4, 380 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia.
7. Copyright
You must be the sole author and owner of the copyright for all images entered. By entering your images into the competition, you grant to Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W.L Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd permission to reproduce the images, without compensation, (with credit where possible) including, but not limited to, the following:
• inclusion within the owner brochures/journals, websites, printed and or electronic advertising, promotions and editorial publicity or similar.
• you grant Peregrine Adventures Pty Ltd, Nikon Australia, Australian Geographic and W. L. Gore & Associates (Australia) Pty Ltd. the right to sub-licence images to the press for reproduction in connection with the competition and/or general publicity.
8. Subjects
If for any reason any of the owners decide an entry not appropriate for display it will be disqualified and will not be displayed. You must declare if a wildlife picture has been taken in captivity or conditions that are unnatural. In some cases, the photographer may be asked to sign a statement detailing how and where a picture was taken. If cruel, unethical or illegal practices are suspected by the Owners or any of the judges, the entry will be disqualified.
9. Legal issues
Where necessary under national or international legislation (e.g. in the case of protected species), pictures must be accompanied by copies of the relevant permits.
10. Other competitions
A picture that has already won a prize (winner, runner up or commended) in a major competition (one receiving more than 500 images) is not eligible for entry.
11. The judging
Judges will be appointed by the Owners. The Owners’ decision on all matters relating to the competition is final, and no correspondence will be entered into concerning the competition’s judging and organisation. Should the quality of entries fall below the standard required, the Owners reserve the right not to award prizes.
12. The prizes
The competition closes on 30 November 2008 and the winners will be decided on or before 17 December 2008. Winners will be notified by phone or email. No notification will be sent in regards to entries. Prizes must be claimed in person unless the winner is otherwise advised. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
1st Prize
• Australian residents: AU$15,000 worth of Peregrine Adventures’ holidays including international flights taken in conjunction with the chosen tour(s). International entries: AU$15,000 worth of Peregrine Adventures’ holidays (international flights not available). The prize is valid for travel up to 30 September 2009. Ancillary costs, such as travel insurance are the responsibility of the winner. Booking conditions apply as per current Peregrine Adventures brochures. If the winner is under 18 years of age, restrictions as to which tours can be taken will apply and their legal guardian must accompany the winner on the tour(s). Other conditions may apply.
• Nikon camera equipment to the retail value of AU$5000.
This will be based on current Nikon camera models available, and on the closest product value to AU$5000 (no cash redemption available for the difference in price). There may be a waiting period for stock to become available. The prize must be collected before 30 June 2009.
• GORE-TEX® Pro Shell jacket valued at approx. AU$700. To be claimed within two months’ of notification.
• 2 year subscription to Australian Geographic Journal. To be claimed within two months’ of notification.
2nd Prize - Category winners
There will be five category winners, one per category.
• AU$1000 towards a Peregrine Adventures’ land tour cost (excludes international and local flights). The prize is valid for travel up to 30 September 2009. Ancillary costs, such as travel insurance are the responsibility of the winner. Booking conditions apply as per current Peregrine Adventures brochures. If the winner is under 18 years of age restrictions as to which tours can be taken will apply, and their legal guardian must accompany the winner on any tour. Other conditions may apply.
• Nikon camera equipment to the retail value of AU$1500. This will be based on current Nikon camera models available and on the closest product value to AU$1500 (no cash redemption available for the difference in price). There may be a waiting period for stock to become available. The prize must be collected before 30 June 2009.
• GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell jacket valued at approx AU$449. To be claimed within two months’ of notification.

3rd Prize - Highly commended winners
There will be five highly commended winners.
The winners will be chosen from all entries and thus may not represent each of the five categories.

Ancillary costs, such as travel insurance are the responsibility of the winner. Booking conditions apply as per current Peregrine Adventures brochures. Vote and Win - Monthly prizes
Each month the owner of the image which receives the highest number of votes will win a one year subscription to the Australian Geographic Journal and one of the people who voted for that image (chosen at random) will win a GORE-TEX® Paclite® Shell jacket valued at approx. AU$449. Only one vote per month per person is allowed. Multiple votes for one image by one person will disqualify the voter. No correspondence will be entered into.
Images entered prior to the 20th of each month will be eligible to be voted for in that month, e.g. if an image is entered on the 23rd of April it will eligible (and appear) for voting in May. The winners need to claim their respective prizes in person, unless otherwise advised, within one month of notification.
13. Notification
Winners and commended photographers will be notified in December 2008. The results will be published on the Owner companies’ websites in December 2008; they will also be sent out in the Peregrine e-newsletter in January 2009 and via a NIKON newsletter.
14. Liability
All entries are sent at the photographer’s risk. As all entries are submitted in a digital format, either online, or via a DVD or CD, no entries will be returned.
