Tunisia

Its resourceful people, and Tunisia’s role as historical entry point to northern Africa, has embellished the country’s epic natural scenery with a collection of riches that makes a journey here a fantastic, fascinating affair. Secreted among the great gold of the Sahara and rubbing up against the inviting Mediterranean waters are spectacular oases, some of Africa’s finest Roman remains in the El Jem amphitheatre; and the beautiful waterside medina of Mahdia. And in Tunis, the country has a capital of great variation and appeal: the Bardo Museum can lay claim to be Africa’s finest; Sidi Bou Said is as beautiful a hillside village as anything Europe can offer; and the grand ruins of Carthage are simply unmissable.
