    Species Selected

    Species are selected according to soil type and local climate and include a range of native trees, shrubs and understory. In most cases 10-40 different species will be established through direct seeding and /or planting seedlings. Seedlings are raised by regional accredited nurseries near the planting sites and/ or seed collected from near the site.

    All plantings are designed to improve and protect the rural environment. Carbon Neutral has a policy of only planting on unproductive farmland. Planting sites are chosen in consultation with enthusiastic landowners.
  • Nurture and Monitoring

    Nurture and Monitoring

    Carbon Neutral works with Land Conservation District Committies, Landcare Officers, Regional Catchment Councils and NRM officers. Weed and pest control, fire prevention, protection from livestock, monitoring, mapping and infill planting, where appropriate, are all part of a comprehensive site management plan undertaken by Carbon Neutral and its contractors.

    All trees are legally protected by a covenant, multiple native species are planted, six trees will conservatively sequester one tonne of carbon dioxide over their lifetime, sites are prepared to industry best practice standards to promote maximum health, vigour and survival of seedlings.
