Recoleta Cemetery and Eva Peron’s tomb

Argentina's capital Buenos Aires

Trip rating
  • Recoleta Cemetery is like a city within a city, complete with narrow alleyways and leafy avenues. Its opulence reflects the golden age of Buenos Aires from 1880-1930. Stretching across 14 acres, there are 6400 tombs where artists, military generals, Nobel Prize winners, former presidents and Eva Peron are buried.

    Why we love it

    • Argentina's capital is certainly one of the world's most eclectic places, with various neighbourhoods reflecting the city's diverse cultural heritage.
    • Grand colonial edifices surround the Plaza de Mayo while glamour and grit walk side by side down the pedestrian streets of Florida and Lavalle.
    • The colourful areas of Recoleta, San Telmo and La Boca all tell their own stories in this city where reality and romance are never too far away from each other.

    Day 1 - Buenos Aires

    • On arrival at Buenos Aires' Ezeiza Airport (international) or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery Airport (domestic) you will be met and transferred to your hotel in the city. Please look for your transfer guide at the airport - they will be holding a sign with your name on it.
    • Once you have checked into the hotel the remainder of your first day will be free.
Hotel Patios De San Telmo or similar

    Day 2 - Buenos Aires

    • Buenos Aires is home to 11 million 'portenos', a name given to the inhabitants of Buenos Aires that literally means 'residents of the port'. It has been shaped by a history riddled with conflict and struggles. Even the achievement of independence in 1816 did not resolve ongoing disputes between local residents and conservative provincial landowners. However, following a succession of military juntas, Argentina now has a stable, democratic government.
    • Your city tour of the Argentine capital combines bus transportation and walking and will take you to the district of Recoleta, famous for its cemetery often referred to as a miniature city-within-a-city because of its size. This place is also famous as the resting place for Argentina's favourite First Lady, Eva Peron.
    • You will also visit Palermo, Plaza San Martin, Plaza de Mayo and the colourful neighbourhood of La Boca, with its colourful wooden buildings. The afternoon will be free for you to explore the city further at your leisure, but it may be possible to book on tours to the Costanera Sur Bird Sanctuary, Tigre Delta or Madero Harbour (please note that these additional tours will be at extra costs).
    • In the evening it is also possible to arrange to see a tango show. Please ask your hotel or local guide for more information. (Please note: on your day trip you may be joining travellers who have booked on other tour packages. This is not an exclusive excursion of ours.)
Hotel Patios De San Telmo or similar
