Bolivian Encounter
Bolivia is a landlocked nation complete with towering mountain peaks, high altitude plains, colonial cities and lush farming lands. With nearly 65 percent of the population belonging to the Aymara, Quechua and other indigenous groups, it is the most ‘Indian’ nation in South America. Starting in the lofty heights of La Paz our adventure crosses the Altiplano to the spectacular salt plains of Uyuni where the horizon disappears into a sea of white shimmering salt. The small city of Potosi lies beneath the Cerro Rico – or Rich Mountain – a peak veined with silver ore. Finally we come to Sucre, arguably the nation’s finest city and still technically the capital of Bolivia. Here, we explore Old Sucre including the Recoleta Church and Monastery, the Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and the absorbing Museum of La Casa de la Libertad.
