Peru & Beyond

After exploring the grand beauty of Lima’s streets and colonial architecture, we fly southward to Arequipa. This is one of Peru's loveliest cities – home to the famous 16th-century Santa Catalina Convent and gateway to the stunning Colca Canyon. Further inland is Cusco, the Sacred Valley and, high above the Urubamba River, the remarkable citadel of Machu Picchu. Continuing eastward we explore Lake Titicaca, including the waterborne communities of the Uros Indians and the amazing burial chambers at Sillustani. Before arriving in La Paz we have the opportunity to discover the ruins of ancient Tiahuanaco, once the centre of a powerful, self-sustaining empire and thought to be one of the oldest civilisations in the Americas.

Be prepared for the altitude and the' water'. Don't do too much on the first day in Cusco, you need to rest and get used to the altitude.

We both enjoyed our cultural adventure in South America, it was a wonderful experience in many ways. All the trip leaders were very good at their job. Two were wonderful people, and really deserve a special rap. They were Lolly Springer in Argentina, and Teresa Navarro in Peru.
