We’ve always been more about destination than accommodation. Adventure for us is a more immersive, cultural experience. Fluffy pillows and a well-stocked minibar aren’t usually what gets our wanderlust flowing. But we do still appreciate quality accommodation that really showcases an authentic slice of local life. It might be a Nonna-run guesthouse in the backstreet of Florence or a tented luxury camp on the Tanzanian savannah. In this series, we’ll be delving into our Little Black Book and showcasing some of the best boutique accommodation around the world. The overnight stays that really stick in the memory.
This week we’re looking at one of our favourite spots to stay on the African east coast: Breezes Beach Club in Zanzibar. Hats off to @fabianwester for this beautiful beach snap. If you wanted to know whether Zanzibar beaches lived up the hype…I think you’ve got your answer.
Hotel name: Breezes Beach Club
Destination: Zanzibar
Breezes was recently picked as one of the Top 4 hotels in all of Tanzania, and it’s easy to see why. There’s direct access to a sugar-white strip of Zanzibar sand(in fact Conde Nast recently ranked the beach as one of the Top 30 in the world), an in-house health spa, and attentive, friendly service that you just don’t find in the generic hotel chains. Importantly, the hotel also drives employment for local youth and sponsors a maternity clinic in the nearby village of Bwejuu.
