A word of warning, Guatemala will steal your heart. Tangled forests and soaring volcanic peaks, waterfalls and sparkling lakes, cobbled streets and muraled walls… Guatemala is like a mystical world from a children’s fantasy novel.

But the most astounding beauty can be found in the faces of Guatemala’s people. Here is a collection of moments captured in the tiny villages that dot the volcanic crevices surrounding Lake Atitlan. Where women dress traditionally in handmade textiles, children roam the streets with smiles as big as the volcanic peaks that tower over them. Where art decorates every wall and markets are overrun with fresh produce and flowers. It is a visual feast.

I recently travelled through Guatemala on a small group tour, and these are a few of the images I was able to capture. It’s one of those countries where it’s very hard to take a bad shot. Wherever I pointed the lens, there was another face, another vista, another story.
