It’s Europe’s best-kept secret, a tiny state with an enormous history, beautiful landscapes and engrossing relics to boot.
After suffering decades under a guarded communist regime, Albania has emerged in all its glory – and only now is the world catching on. Go back to the middle ages at Kruja castle, the undefeatable fortress of the Albania of old. Or visit the UNESCO listed ‘City of a Thousand Windows’ – the charming riverside town of Berat. Mt Dajti is just one of the country’s natural treasures, an ancient massif with stunning vistas over streams, cities and wilderness. But all of this doesn’t cover the half of it. Tirana's mosques, Ottoman remnants and intense locals make up just some of the rest.

Western Balkans Unveiled, September 2016
The Balkans is a place of complexity, intrigue and endless fascination. The history of the region throws up challenges with which all of the countries are still grappling. It is a place of friendly and hospitable people who receive travellers with enthusiasm and who are delighted to share their slice of life. Much of the cultural heritage has been destroyed through endless conflict, but there is still a wealth of riches to be experienced and enjoyed. Highly recommended!
