Why you'll love this trip

  • Explore areas known for their incredible wildlife like minke, humpback and orca whales or gentoo, Adelie and chinstrap penguins.

  • Travel with a team of polar experts. Not only do they help you spot wildlife and explain the incredible sights, they will also deliver a comprehensive onboard lecture program.

  • Discover the Great White Continent by Zodiac, on foot or even with optional adventure options like kayaking and cross-country skiing!

  • Begin and end in lively Buenos Aires with included charter flights to and from your embarkation point in Ushuaia.

  • Travel in comfort a vessel fitted with health and wellness facilities like a gym, a spa, an onboard clinic and a smoothie bar.

Is this trip right for you?

  • Some people may experience seasickness during the voyage. Please see the ‘Medical and Health Information’ section of the Essential Trip Information for details on how to prepare.

  • As you’d expect, temperatures in the Antarctic are freezing. A warm parka will be provided along with waterproof boots and unlimited hot drinks, but please see the 'Packing' section of the Essential Trip Information for further important details on what to bring.

  • While this trip is not physically demanding, you will need to be mobile enough to walk up and down stairs between decks, make wet and dry landings by Zodiac and walk over sometimes rough terrain. The weather plays a pivotal part in this adventure and although there’s an itinerary in place, there are no guarantees that you’ll be able to do everything that is planned for. A level of flexibility and openness to embracing the unexpected are important in expedition travel, especially to such a remote area.

Itinerary

Welcome to Buenos Aires! Make your way from the airport to the pre-voyage hotel. You will be provided with information regarding tomorrow’s embarkation on arrival at the hotel. If you arrive with time to spare in this lively city, don’t pass up the chance to try an iconic Argentinian steak and a glass of Malbec.
Meals Included
There are no meals included on this day.
Special Information
A transfer from a Buenos Aires airport to the hotel is not included, and neither are any meals before embarkation. Please make your own way to the joining hotel (details of which are in the Essential Trip Information).

If you arrive earlier or wish to extend your stay and need accommodation, please speak to your Peregrine representative.
In the morning take a private charter flight from Buenos Aires to Ushuaia, which should take around 3 hours. On arrival, explore the town briefly before heading to port. Embark in the afternoon and settle into your cabin. Cruise through the Beagle Channel, which transects the Tierra del Fuego archipelago. The channel is rich with birdlife, so keep an eye out for penguins, cormorants, petrels and black-browed albatross. Members of the expedition team will help you spot wildlife from the deck. Enjoy your first dinner on board and get to know your crew and fellow travellers.

Spend roughly two days crossing the infamous Drake Passage. This wide channel separates the bottom of South America from the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, and was named after the English explorer, Sir Frances Drake. Your onboard lecture program will begin during this time, with presentations from polar experts to prepare you for the sights that await you in Antarctica.

You might go ashore on Cuverville Island to see a gentoo penguin rookery, spot minke whales while cruising down the Lemaire Channel or strap on some show shoes for a hike across icy land. Nights on board will bring more fascinating presentations from your expert team. It is also possible to organise optional excursions at your own expense such as kayaking, mountaineering, cross-country skiing, camping and even a polar plunge for the brave!

See the ‘Important Notes’ section for more detail on these options. As space is limited on optional activities, we recommend you secure your place at the time of booking.
