They’re black, they’re hairy, and they shy from civilisation in depths of the jungle – they are the last of the world’s great mountain gorillas.
For 18 years, Dian Fossey studied the majestic mountain gorillas of Rwanda. Thanks to her efforts to protect them, the country has secured a modest population who live among the rare and elusive Rwandan wildlife. Today, gorilla sightings are no less magical, no less exclusive, than they were in Fossey’s time. As Rwanda slowly recovers from its own holocaust in the 90s, there’s no better place to view these threatened but spectacular primates.
