Highlights of cruising Central America
Discover the treasures of the Pearl Islands
The Pearl Islands lie in the North Pacific Ocean, harboured by the Gulf of Panama, with almost 250 largely uninhabited islands to explore. Historically a haven for Spanish conquistadors, Caribbean pirates and even Iranian Shahs, the islands are best known today for their swimming and snorkelling locales, as well as their prime whale watching sites.
Spot monkeys in Manuel Antonio National Park
In a country with more than its fair share of protected rainforest, Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the smallest but most beautiful and biodiverse reserves in Costa Rica. Hike through tropical jungle to find sloths, monkeys, iguanas, and 184 species of bird. From nearby beaches, you might even spot the dolphins and whales that pass through.
Wander spectacular Osa Peninsula
The remote Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica is covered in dense rainforest that provides shelter to giant anteaters, tapirs and jaguars. Even a short trek through the jungle is likely to reveal all manner of tropical birds and reptiles, possibly even a squirrel monkey or a harpy eagle.
