Bosnia-Herzegovina is emerging as another of Europe’s southern darlings – and with pearly lakes and quaint historical villages, it isn’t hard to see why.

Barely discovered Bosnia is strange enough to be interesting, but familiar enough to dive into. With a culture inflected by periods of Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslavian rule, there’s such a wealth of history here. In the idyllic towns of Jajce and Bihać, old churches, forts and towers rest in flourishing scenery of waterfalls and rivers. The capital of Sarajevo has bounced back from the war with restored streets; mosques and churches within meters from one another, and a lovely old Turkish quarter, Baščaršija.
