Itinerary

On arrival in Kathmandu meet a Peregrine representative who will transfer you to your hotel. There will be a group briefing with your trip leader in the late afternoon. Usually the meeting is followed by an optional group dinner at one of Kathmandu's fine Nepali restaurants.

Early this morning, make an attempt at the Mt Everest scenic flight (depending on the weather). This incredible experience will take you over the Sagamartha National Park, through some of the highest peaks in the world, climaxing with an up-close look at Mt Everest. Afterwards, explore Kathmandu on a sightseeing tour. Visit Bodhnath Stupa, one of the biggest Buddhist shrines in the world, and observe Buddhist monks in prayer. You’ll also visit Pashupatinath, the most famous Hindu temple in the country. Here, you’ll see Hindu holy men meditating, pilgrims bathing and funeral pyres burning on the ghats.

Please note that the Everest scenic flight is completely weather dependent. In cases of bad weather, the scenic flight will be attempted at the end of the trip.
Transfer to the Kathmandu domestic airport and fly to Dhangadhi, where you’ll be met and transferred to the wildlife camp in Shuklaphanta. The wildlife resort is on the largest patch of continuous grassland in Nepal, and is one of the best-known reserves to see large swamp deer. Upon arrival at the camp, the manager will give you a quick briefing about activities. Then, if there’s time, you’ll head out on a short walk around the reserve. Afterwards, have dinner followed by a briefing for the next day's program.

Flight time: approx 75 mins
Wake up early this morning, as this is the best time of day to see birds and mammals. After breakfast, head out into the reserve for a Jeep safari, keeping an eye out for birds, elephants, deer and pythons on the half-day excursion. You'll be able to cover a variety of environments, including water holes, jungle, marshes, ponds and grassland. In the afternoon, venture out on another safari to see the animals at dusk.

Spend the entire day in the reserve, exploring different areas of the 305 square kilometer park by jeep. The reserve has 43 species of mammals and 425 species of birds. Hiding in the streams and rivers are mugger crocodiles, otters, and 27 species of fish. The reptile population includes golden monitor lizard, Indian python, and several species of cobras. Venture up into a viewing tower for a picnic lunch before heading back to camp late in the afternoon.

After breakfast, drive to Bardia National Park (approximately 5-6 hours). The national park is the largest untouched wilderness in the Nepal’s Terai region, with habitats that range from dry upland slopes to riverine forest and pockets of savanna. It's home to abundant wildlife, including elephants, the endangered one-horned rhinoceros, and elusive Bengal tigers.

In the morning, take a game drive through the park, keeping an eye out for antelopes, elephants, deer and hyenas. There are around 40 species of mammal living in the park, including crocodiles, leopards and monkeys, and over 400 species of bird. In the afternoon, venture out on a nature walk through the reserve before dinner.

Prepare for goose bumps today, as you head out into the reserve on a tiger tracking expedition. You won't always get a glimpse of the elusive creature, but the experience is still one-in-a-million. Afterwards, enjoy an adventure of a different kind: bird watching and a jeep safari.

This morning, drive to Chitwan National Park (approximately 7-8 hours). After settling in, meet the camp staff and resident naturalists who will discuss upcoming activities (which may vary, depending on the time of year and wildlife movements), then head out into the forest and across grasslands to observe the varied and exciting wildlife in the park on an afternoon safari. In the evening, the local Tharu dance troupe will take you on a cultural walk, followed by a slide presentation from a wildlife expert. Then enjoy dinner and some free time in the bar to discuss the day’s sightings with your group, or listen to the exotic sounds of the jungle at night.

Embark on an early-morning jeep safari through the park, in search of the great Indian rhino, deer, and exotic bird life. Tiger sightings are rare these days, but these magnificent animals do still inhabit the park. Enjoy some R&R at the lodge in the afternoon, then enjoy a colourful Tharu dance performance before dinner.

After breakfast, leave the lodge for a dugout canoe adventure on the Rapti River. This exciting trip offers chances to see rare marsh mugger crocodiles and wallowing hippos. Today, you have option of joining another wildlife activity before you depart for the airport for the short flight to Kathmandu (approximately 20 minutes flying time).
