  • Why we love Himalaya

    • Kathmandu's friendly hubbub, Pokhara’s glistening jewel of a lake, Chitwan’s animals and lush forests – Nepal can surprise visitors with its variety
    • Fly parallel to the mountains and get a great view of Everest on the flight from Kathmandu to Lukla
    • Nearby Tibet is as wonderfully exotic as destinations get – halfway to heaven and hidden from the world, this is a place that truly deserves the description ‘otherworldly’
    • Our trips are led by people who’ve grown up in these mountains and have guided hundreds of expeditions
    • The proceeds from the lodges we stay in along the Annapurna and Everest trails go back to the community

    Safety information

Your safety is our top priority. It’s one of the main things we consider when designing and operating our trips. Here’s some of the ways we help to keep you safe, and a few of the things you can do to make your trip memorable for all the right reasons. Before you travel We monitor travel alerts provided by the Australian, UK, USA and Canadian governments on a daily basis. Before a tour goes on sale we assess any risks and decide how to reduce and manage these. If we determine that an entire trip, part of a trip or an activity is too risky we won’t do it. It’s as simple as that. If we can’t address the issues and improve conditions we might modify an itinerary, change the accommodation or even decide not to travel to a certain location. Our overseas staff and local leaders are trained to address any health and safety concerns during trips. Before you travel, we’ll give you an emergency phone number. You’ll also get comprehensive pre-departure information, with information about vaccinations and other relevant health issues. We’ll also tell you if there’s any special clothing or equipment you need to bring. During your trip: You local leader is trained in first aid and always carries a first aid kit. Being a local means that if something does go wrong they know fastest and most effective way to get help. On all our high altitude treks we carry a portable altitude chamber and oxygen equipment. We’ll also give you a 24-hour emergency number in addition to the emergency destination telephone number. What you can do: Read through all the information we send you. If you’ve got any questions we’re always available to help. Keep an eye out for travel alerts by consulting your local Foreign Office. We also monitor these daily so that we can modify tours if necessary. Get some medical travel advice about the countries you are visiting, particularly about vaccinations and the type of personal first aid kit you should carry. Make sure you tell us any medical conditions, special needs or dietary requirements you might have. Get your vaccinations and take relevant medication well before travelling so they have time to take effect.

Mukund was fantastic!! Nothing was too hard for him and he could solve any problem or assist you with any need. His knowledge was great and he always gave you a great insight into the Nepalese people and their culture. While trekking he was happy to chat and was full of lots of interesting stories and tales of the people. His leadership qualities were second to none.

The best part was reaching Kophra ridge. An amazing feeling to be above the flight path of small planes on their way to Jomsom, and to be above the clouds. The silence and the beautiful peaks poking up through the clouds was a sight that will remain in my mind forever. I have a picture of me doing a balance at dusk and the background looks like I am standing on top of the blanket of cloud below me. Spectacular!! My only point would be to maybe spend two nights at this lodge where you spend the second day doing a small trek across the ridge where you get closer to the mountains and get the experience of being at that height for longer. One night wasn't enough. The group size was perfect (8) and we all got along really well.

Our trip leader must be commended for making decisions regarding some of the trekkers who became ill along the way and also one who held up the group throughout. These were difficult circumstances and he dealt with them superbly. His patience was outstanding.

Bring purifying tablets to obtain potable water; be prepared to be awed by the views, and people of Nepal.

Just go. The mountains are more impressive than you can imagine. The views are spectacular and so varied every day of the trek. The locals are friendly and welcoming and the lodges, whilst basic are really comfortable considering your location. Make sure you do some training - there's a lot of walking up and down, but it's not beyond most people. Don't over pack, you tend to wear clothes for multiple days; Cleaning ie showers available almost every day in some form.<

The most memorable part of the trip was the fact that we were off the beaten track for most of our trek. It was so great waking up to a different mountain views each day, and then walking along paths without passing other trekkers. I'm so pleased I did the Annapurna Dhaulagiri trek rather than one of the main trails. It was also fantastic to walk through the little villages, observing daily farming life and having brief encounters with the locals.

This trip is not always the most comfortable but many magnificent highlights make up for the discomforts. The close-up views of Mt Everest are incredible. Travellers will also see how China is being transformed into a more developed economy as well as getting an appreciation of what life is like for the Tibetans under a Chinese government.

Overall the trip was harder than I expected...Maybe because I hadn't thought about it much. My wife and I had prepared and I think we prepared quite well...Just didn't really know what to expect...others have also talked about how hard it was psychologically. Feel proud I finished the trek but a little more warning about what to expect the first 3 to 4 days as you mentally toughened up may have helped. I cannot praise the guides and porters enough. Norbu was our guide and he was beyond excellent. Supporting and encouraging and handing out advice, medication, and encouragement. Without him a number of our group would not have made the trip. His knowledge of the area was very good and made for an interesting commentary. wonderful memories and photos well worth the effort....but once at altitude will be enough.

My trek mates and I were as well prepared, both physically and mentally, as we could be having come from a 'non altitude' environment. We managed to cope with the sickness and altitude problems which the environment threw at us with the help of each other and our wonderful trek leader (Norbu). Peregrine should redo aspects of their trip description to make people aware that 'it is no walk in the park!'

The Gokyo/Everest Base Camp/Island Peak trip is a great way to see much of the Everest region in a single trip. The acclimitisation schedule is excellent, with several treks above 5300M. Highly recommended for people who are fit and have had some experience with altitude. The problem with our group was that half the people were not fit...they ignored the pre-trip guidelines and created problems for the guides and the rest of the group. They had tiny backpacks, and no stamina. Another issue was the severity of the Island Peak climb. The 1200M climb was made from base camp without utilising high camp. That was not a problem for fit climbers, but nearly impossible for inexperienced/unfit people. There was no chance to practice crampon or ice-ax use beforehand, and the crevice field really required know-how of these skills. The result was a somewhat dangerous and unnecessarily long journey....15 hours. The fixed ropes on the mountain were frayed...I'm happy to not have tested them.

This was an amazing trip - would grade it as strenuous rather than moderate. Once we were on the Dhaulagiri circuit the weather gave us snow and ice to walk on. Our Leader Lhakpa was extremely highly trained and we were fortunate to have him on our trek. With the weather conditions the itinerary had to be altered - which was not a problem for any of the group and seemed to be done with the minimum of fuss. Hot meals and a warm sleeping bag at night - what could be better.

A most memorable trip and something I had been planning for several years. It was a totally humbling experience and I cannot speak more highly of our group leader Deven Gurung and his team. Deven was not only an inspiration but was integral in maintaining the team dynamics and enthusiasm, especially when the days got tough. Deven is a credit to Peregrine and will be the reason I will return in 2 years to do Island peak. As for the overall logistics of the trip, my expectations were well managed however the only recommendation I would give would be that some tea houses could use a little tweeking especially with respect to ammenities. It amy be helpful if toilets were maintained and cleaned on a more regualar basis, part from that money well spent. Thank you for the experience and please pass on my personal thanks to Deven for making the trip so enjoyable.

our tour leader klapa sherpa was outstanding and made himself available to all as required night and day. he used humour to mask some of the tough tracks ahead of us plus made sure everyone was prepared as possible to cope with the increases in altitude. meeting a variety of leaders from other groups and companies we felt priveledged to be in such expert hands. I do however have real concerns with the length of the tour as people became quite fatigued and there was no scope for people to rest. it actually came quite an endurance exercise for many. i strongly sugest an extra night at gokyo lakes at a minimun.

We had a fantastic trek and this was made all the more satisfying because of excellent leadership from our Sherpa (Lhakpa Tshiring. One of the key issues we had on this tek was a change from the originak iteneray which required a 9 hr day from Chainabatthi to Ghandruk, this is far too long a day. We in fact did the trek the reverse to the original itenary and this was a much better way. I would suggest that in future trfeks the itenary that we took should be adopted, that is travel to from Kopra Ridge back to Annapurna south base camp. This then allows for contingencies if snow is blocking the pass as it did in our case. Our Sherpa gave us the best opportunity to see as much as we could without doubling back on tracks already walked. If we had taken tht trek as proposed we would have seen half of what we saw. I would discuss this itenary with Lhakpa for a better explanation of our trekking adventure.

This is a fantastic way to really see the Everest region! The trip to Gokyo is great both for acclimatization and seeing a different valley and it's sights, rather than heading along the main tourist route straight to bases camp. The tour is planned with safety and acclimatization as the priority so there are several free afternoons early on which am the whole trek more enjoyable we your adjusting to the conditions. The lodges were all better then expected, and the staff simply awesome! Our crew could not have been better!!

Really appreciated how well our tour leader kept an eye on all party members and modified the trek to ensure we all achieved most of what we wanted to get out of the trip.
Would suggest stressing to all trekkers to use thin scarves over their nose and mouth to help avoid getting Khumbu cough, which made sleeping and trekking difficult for me.
We were disappointed that Peregrine did not contact us at the Shangri-La Hotel to make arrangements for our trip to Chitwan after our trek. We had to make contact ourselves to find out when we were going to be picked up.

My trip was the best I have experienced. The trip exposed me to a culture and a country that I had never experienced the likes of before. Although there was some shock at first upon arrival in Kathmandu, trekking allowed for a chance to get away from the chaos of city life and to really take in the beauty of Nepal...the people and the land. The trip had the perfect balance of trekking, wildlife and cultural exposure that I was hoping for and more. There is not one part of the trip I would change. I had the best time ever and now can't wait to go back to Nepal again...hopefully soon.

I found the experience to be enjoyable as a whole but only because I have enough mountaineering experience to essentially guide myself up and down a mountain therefore was able to troubleshoot any issues and even help fellow trekkers.

The guiding was adequate but of all the excursions that I have done, unfortunately, it was the lowest quality that I have experienced.

Although the trip was generally good, Peregrine failed miserably in its communications with the clients. It was well known prior to our trip the weather was poor and winter was early. This was never communicated to us. We could have brought additional clothing if we knew the weather was different than planned and that winter was earlier than anticipated. In addition, it was known because of the poor weather and early winter, there was no chance we would be able to make it to the Annapurna South base camp. This was evident from the start of the trip and was confirmed by the Tour leader who stated only one group had made it to the South Base camp since the beginning of October. This information should have been conveyed to the clients and a discussion regarding what we wanted to do. This was very disappointing Peregrine did not have enough foresight and transparency to have this type of communication with its clients.

It's actually difficult to find which was the MOST memorable part. There was the day we left Kopra Ridge amidst sunshine, blue skies, clean crisp fresh air, valleys and snowy mountains with aeroplanes flying lower than where you were standing; there was the evening at Tadapani where George and Deb had us all in fits of laughter over a card game of "fish" using a pack depicting all 14 highest mountains whilst sitting on forms around a big square table under which the owners placed hot coals to keep us warm. Then there were the leeches... fascinating little critters!!! Oh, and making me a birthday cake ... how did they do that? Seeing millet growing. Seeing happy people  ... thinking about less is sometimes more.

I suffered altitude sickness and needed to be hospitalised in Lhasa for around 7 hours in the middle of the night.  The Trip Leader (Naresh Rai) was exceptional in his care, in that he organised for the Tibetan guide to meet us at the hospital and stay for about 4 hours until the treatment was underway.  Naresh stayed all night and ensured we were safely back in the hotel.  Next morning another Peregrine rep had been organised to stay with me in case I was too unwell to join the Potala Palace Tour.  This type of service is the reason we choose to travel with Peregrine.

The most memorable (and quite emotional) part of the Annapurna / Dhaulagiri trek was rounding the grassy slops of Kopra Ridge to see the Kopra community lodge for the first time, with Annapurna South and Dhaulagiri Himal surrounding us.

If you are doing this trip, you need to have a reasonable level of fitness in your legs to enure that you enjoy it to the max! Also make sure you have a GOOD pair of worn-in hiking boots. Another tip would be to make sure you have the best camera you can afford to record the multitude of special moments.
